Business as usual

DM Editor David Tyler finds out more from Martin Birch, the managing director EMEA for the Document Imaging business.

Another year, another DM Awards ceremony: it was great to see so many new and emerging technology companies in attendance at this year's event alongside the established 'big players' in the market. The ongoing success and growth of the Awards seems to me to reflect the ongoing growth of the market itself: document and content management is still far from a commoditised technology, despite what many within the industry might think. We've introduced something new this year that I am very excited about: video footage of the various award winners. Please visit www.dmawards.com to see highlights of the night.

Seeing the Project entries at the DM Awards reassures me every year that there are still companies out there actively seeking innovative solutions that can bring them real measurable benefits, whether in terms of time saved, bottom line cost reductions, or efficiency gains in their line of business applications. For a full list of all the winners, visit www.dmawards.com, while I put my tuxedo back in mothballs till next time!

This newsletter contains one of the first in-depth interviews with senior management at the newly-named Kodak Alaris business, Martin Birch, EMEA MD of Document Imaging. After a period of understandable uncertainty, it is great to see this hugely successful and innovative group of people back doing what they do best: developing capture and imaging solutions that lead the market. As Martin Birch says in the interview: "What this new structure brings us is stability as well as opportunity. Stability in that we now have an owner who is looking at a long-term time horizon; the pension scheme means that they have a long term perspective on things. This ensures stability for us and more importantly for our customers. As far as customers are concerned it is 'business as usual' now." Long may it continue.

David Tyler
