This issue of the DM magazine e-newsletter includes a heartfelt plea from EASY Software's Howard Frear to take a long hard look at how we all use email, something he describes as "simultaneously the most efficient and ubiquitous business communication method and yet also one of the most time and productivity-destructive weapons of mass 'distraction' ever invented". And we have to say we've some sympathy. Howard argues that it is actually bad for organisations that staff feel the need to be accessible at all hours of the day or night - and even when on holiday. He even suggests that, in the same vein as 'World paper free day', we might consider introducing an 'email free day' to our calendars. Is this just silliness, or might it help us to realise that maybe that 'unread' flag in our inbox might not be quite as crucial as we like to tell ourselves?

And let me finish off with one final reminder (I promise!) to visit the DM Awards website (www.dmawards.com) and cast your vote for the finalists - this year has seen record numbers of votes cast already, so if you haven't already made your voice heard, don't leave it too late. Voting closes on September 30th.
