You’ll find a link to the voting page in the events section of this issue, so be sure to visit and cast your votes to determine this year’s winners. The 2015 awards are shaping up to be our biggest and best yet, with thousands of votes already cast so far. Voting closes on 10th March with the awards ceremony being held on 19th March, so there’s still plenty of time to get involved in both!

Elsewhere this issue we have two articles on Software Defined Networking. Emulex poses the question, “If software-defined architectures are so important then why do we still need hardware?” The answer, as they like to say on certain clickbait websites, may surprise you! For Scott Strickland of IBM SDN Global Sales and Business Development, SDN is not the game-changing technology that it’s sometimes portrayed to be but rather a “functional component” of cloud computing - the technology that is truly changing the world.

The cloud is also having an impact on a more localised level too with the emergence of the Metro Cloud, which has the potential to bring the benefits of the data centre to the doorsteps (virtually speaking) of SMEs. Read Chris Champion’s article in this issue for more.
