Welcome to the final edition of the Storage magazine e-Newsletter for 2013. As you’ll know, this newsletter is something of an experiment for us here at the magazine, and I’m delighted to say that our first year has been an unqualified success – readers seem to relish the opportunity to get instant access to our feature material, with interviews and product reviews proving especially popular. Don’t forget to pass on the good word to any colleagues for whom you feel the newsletter would be relevant!

This edition includes some guidance on how to best exploit the best features of SSD and HDD in a tiered storage architecture. Toshiba’s Nick Spittle comments: “SSDs should not be viewed as the ‘HDD killer’, but rather as a complementary technology to enhance existing storage infrastructure. As NAND prices become more competitive, the application potential will broaden. Given their technological capabilities, HDDs and SSDs will continue to coexist in the data storage market for years to come”. What do you think? We’re always keen to hear views from across the industry, whether you are a vendor, integrator or an end user – feel free to share your thoughts. See you in 2014.
