Welcome to our March eNewsletter, which includes a news item from M-Files focused on a worrying but perhaps not uncommon prediction: that enterprises are in danger of drowning in the ever-growing mass of information and digital content being generated. What will exacerbate this problem, the company’s research suggests, is the inability of legacy IT systems to handle such volumes of content in a meaningful or useful way.

For Julian Cook of M-Files the findings are unsurprising and highlight the pressing need for an overhaul to the way content is managed: “Addressing organisational issues when it comes to managing content is a very real challenge facing businesses. The wide-spread adoption of cloud computing, along with the increased opportunity for remote working environments and the growth of the BYOD culture, mean that information is no-longer restricted to the four walls of the office. These seismic shifts in the way that organisations operate and the technology they use have resulted in increasing amounts of information proliferating throughout the organisations and residing in a whole host of disparate systems. The reality, however, is that this pace of change amongst enterprises and the proliferation of data is not syncing with the systems needed to support it.”

Are things really that bad? As ever we’d love to hear your views from within the industry: feel free to contact me at the email below.
