Out and About

We are really on the move in this months newsletter, with a couple of articles on the rail network, and updates on the growth of mobile computing. High Speed 2 is currently generating a lot of heat at the moment, because of its huge cost and disruption of lives of people in its path. Many people ask whether its all worth it, then complain that all infrastructure development seems to be taking place in and around London. Here we have a cogent argument that sees the whole of the country benefitting, suggesting that it brings the country closer together, and makes it as easy to have a face-to-face meeting in Manchester as it is to cross London.

Face-to-face is a feature of mobile computing, as well. Instead of dragging site managers back to the office to discuss the state of the project, the office can be taken on-site, where issues can be dealt with in real-time, with the whole team, where they occur. All part and parcel of total Project Control, the ubiquity of laptops and iPads and the beneficence of the Cloud.

I noticed, yesterday, that a couple of road tunnels are being suggested to ease London's traffic problems – congestion charges haven't done enough, then. That gives plenty of scope for more simulation and analysis, to see if the congested space UNDER the city can really handle it.

In this issue we also have, though, Conject, Vectorworks and Asta Development, worthy winners at the recent Hammers Awards.
