Laying down the gauntlet!
Mark Zuckerberg has been looking into the future, again, stating that the drivers for the next ten years are going to be artificial intelligence, ubiquitous Internet connection and virtual and augmented reality – the last of which he will be focussing on, unveiling the Camera Effects platform, accessible from Faceboook app’s camera. Whether you like it, or not, the fabric of society is changing at an accelerating pace. Celebrity status now depends on the number of your Twitter followers, rather than the foes you have vanquished.

Underpinning the above is information – BIM is just one element, demographics and social intelligence use some aspects of building information to place human behaviour in context – or to design buildings and urban environments that cater for the needs of the future. Architects can ignore BIM – after all, a person may only sleep in one bed, use one toilet, cook in one kitchen (even that activity is up for grabs!) – or discover how the information they can attach to their models can be used to augment their designs, enhance their sustainable qualities, and maximise the benefits of total Internet connectivity, whilst minimising its harm.

COBie or not COBie is not just about assessing the need for one particular method of viewing and building information, but about the role of that information now and in the future from the perspective of all who will create and use it. If that doesn’t stimulate you, why do you profess to call yourself an architect?

The CAD User Seminar will take place on the 16th May at the London Transport Museum in Covent Garden, London. For more information including the agenda and our speakers for the day please visit CAD User Seminars A few tickets prices at £20 including lunch still remain.
