Two plus two equals five.

Some very basic comparisons can be made between two different industries and how they are weathering the pandemic. The retail industry, fronted by the iconic names of yesteryear have been hit hard by lockdowns which has prompted people to go online to satisfy their shopping needs – with the obvious consequence that the transition which is happening anyway, has been brought forward a decade and the famous names on the high street are being acquired wholesale.

The construction industry, though, is still vibrant. Despite having to accommodate the restrictions placed on it by Covid19 and Brexit, we are still building close to what we were building at the beginning of 2020. And acquisitions? Well, we have two here which are an amalgamation of the strengths of two companies within the same sector, rather than the strong swallowing the week, and the outcome is entirely to the benefit of their customers, who will have an expanded range of products, more knowledgeable consultants to guide them through the multiplicity of solutions, and better training and support.

And a couple of new names to remember – the Access Group, having previously taken ConQuest under its wing, have now added EasyBuild to its range of ERP solutions, and the Nordic Group Addnode, aka Symetri, has added Excitech and its range of Autodesk based solutions to its folder – a wide range which includes both AEC and Manufacturing CAD solutions – an interesting combination as we are starting to integrate both off-site fabrication and modular building within our portfolios.
