Human Resources and The Hammers Awards

How on earth can you take a positive away from the COVID19 pandemic? There's no doubt it has utterly transformed people's lives, and our working and commuting patterns. If there's any good news, though, it has to be the latter and our attitudes to safety and health issues on the construction site. A couple of articles in this newsletter, discuss how 3D Repo and EmpiricAI address social distancing issues and COVID related practices alongside all personal health related risks on a building site - notoriously one of the most dangerous places to work.

Besides encouraging workers to maintain a correct social distance from each other, H&S applications can also be used to identify and mitigate risks, flagging them up in 3D on mobiles and laptops, and to list constraints and precautions that need to be taken before workers embark on particular tasks - having already confirmed that they have been trained and are capable of doing a job before they are assigned to it.

It is heartening to see the emphasis switching to the safety of the employee, a vital cog in a construction project, andalso, incidentally, to the inclusion of mental health as an issue of concern within the industry.Perhaps safety might figure as an issue for the Team of the Year in this year’s Hammers Awards – i.e., which team has responded most effectively to the pandemic. We also have the Lighthouse Club which focusses on mental health in the industry as our chosen charity this year. With temperatures currently hovering in the mid-forties degrees Centigrade in Canada, of all places, you might care to think about those companies contributing most to Sustainability – a new category in the Construction Computing Awards. You can check out the details at www.constructioncomputingawards.co.uk
