Comment
So we approach the end of 2013, and the inevitable ‘looking back over the year’ begins. In the DM/ECM industry we’ve seen a surprisingly positive period, I’d say, in which businesses have increasingly recognised the ROI that our technologies can offer in times of economic difficulties. In the NHS perhaps more than anywhere (though maybe closely followed by the financial services industry) we have seen some truly innovative uses of DM systems, and I fully expect that to continue on the back of the Health Minister’s drive toward a paper-free health service.

Our feature here (‘Going going gone?’) looks in detail at the paperless workplace, as AIIM’s Doug Miles analyses their most recent research into the topic. But even now, as Document Manager prepares to enter its 22nd year of publication, there is much to be done, as Doug points out: “Despite the ready availability of simple scan-based processes, 29% of mid-sized companies are all-paper, compared with 25% of smaller businesses, and even amongst those with over 5,000 employees, 13% have no paper-free processes whatsoever.”

Nonetheless the message is getting out there to those organisations, helped no doubt by the continuing growth of this very newsletter, so I thank you the readers for supporting and sharing our work. Here’s to an even more successful 2014!
