Comment Welcome to the first Document Manager e-newsletter of 2014 - our New Year's resolution is to continue to grow our readership after a phenomenally successful first year!
In this issue we take a close look at what's happening with SharePoint, as it matures into the DM/ECM product it had so long promised to be. Or does it? AIIM's Doug Miles argues that despite recent improvements in the product itself, there is still a tendency for SharePoint to be seen through too much of an IT manager's viewpoint, and that may be holding back wider acceptance and use.
Miles comments: "... SharePoint is still an IT-driven platform. This is a fact clearly reflected in the high levels of customisation felt necessary to make it work as a DM/ECM solution, reluctant user take-up, and the limited spread of business processes we found it supporting. Should the DM community be satisfied with this? I hope we can all agree that any DM conversation being conducted just in the IT department is not ever going to be a helpful one to the organisation as a whole, and this is something the DM community should be addressing."
Let us know if you agree, we'd love to hear your views for future issues.
