Comment Welcome to this month's newsletter. January is a distant, soggy memory and the year's networking calendar is now in full swing, as our rapidly growing events section will testify. The mighty CeBIT is looming on the horizon like a small country in its own right, followed by Infosecurity Europe at the end of April and Ovum's 4th Annual Industry Congress in May, both held in London. As of course will be our own Network Computing Awards, held on March 13th at the Hotel Russell. There's still time to make your choices (voting closes on March 4th) and to attend the awards ceremony itself, so please do get involved! Cloud Expo Europe is about to get underway too, running from the 26th and 27th February at the ExCel Centre. BTC will be launching a new Magazine, Cloud Hosting, at the Expo so be sure to grab your copy if you're attending!
Putting the diary aside for the moment and returning to the network proper, this issue includes an insightful look at the changing demands on the network manager from Andy Singleton at Masergy. As Andy writes, "network managers have evolved from their traditional support role and are becoming leaders of a mission critical function that influences whether a business grows or fails." No pressure then! Perhaps our increasingly hybridised infrastructure now requires an equally multifaceted management approach - read Andy's article for more.
We also have a profile on the tremendous work done by Byte Night on behalf of Action for Children. This year's Byte Night takes place on Friday 3rd October at events across the UK - as worthy a date for your planner as we can think of.
