With this year’s Infosecurity Europe taking place at ExCel London this week we thought it would be fitting to keep the focus on cybersecurity in this month’s newsletter. First, Will Dixon, Director of Academy & Community, ISTARI, considers whether the way forward for cyber education is clear enough, stating that “With numerous technologies involved, all sorts of different acronyms, a highly dynamic threat landscape that continues to get more complex, and the role of cybersecurity having evolved from purely technical to strategic, it is no wonder people have questions about where to start.”
Cybersecurity awareness and training are also the subject of an article by John Trest, Chief Learning Officer at VIPRE Security Group, who observes that “Despite there being a number of technologies available to help improve businesses IT cybersecurity posture, 95% of cybersecurity breaches result from human error. And therefore, if employees are not educated in how to keep themselves and others safe from an attack, then these technological investments are set to fail before they even begin.” Read John’s article to find out how implementing cyber hygiene best practices could help us clean up our act.
We also have security-themed articles on the importance of data encryption in our evolving hybrid working landscape and the role of the network as businesses seek digital immunity, as well as a review of Semperis’ Purple Knight, an easy to use tool for testing the security of Microsoft Active Directory and Azure Active Directory environments – and which also happens to be completely free. As our review points out, “Enterprises worried about security in their Active Directory and Azure Active Directory environments have absolutely nothing to lose with Purple Knight.” If only the same were true for all of our cybersecurity challenges!
