Welcome to the Storage magazine eNewsletter for September, which includes news of WD's new OptiNAND technology, which promises to bring new life to the HDD marketplace. The company's new drive architecture integrates hard drives with iNAND embedded flash drives to potentially improve capacity, performance and reliability. There are already users testing 20TB versions of the technology, and there is scope, says WD, for a 50TB HDD before the end of this decade.

It seems like every time we start to think that HDD has had its day, an innovation like this comes along to remind us that in fact we are still likely to be relying on spinning disk for many years to come!

Lastly a quick notice that this year's Storage Awards night has changed dates: the ceremony will now be on Thursday, October 7th - and this means that voting will stay open a little longer too - you now have until September 23rd to make your voice heard, so why not head to www.storage-awards.com right now?
