Keep your diary open on the 5th, 6th or 7th of March as Excel is hosting the first Futurebuild exhibition – the current incarnation, or Revision level, if you like – of Ecobuild. It’s has been quite fascinating seeing how the show has developed since its inception, and the organisers have been quite astute in focussing on current hot topics over the years – although if probably relies somewhat on the ‘chicken or egg’ scenario to set the main themes.
The earliest shows, for instance, featured BIM quite heavily with a separate BIM village, and there were a couple of years when alternative energy sources were very much in evidence. More notable, recently, have been larger component manufacturers flexing their environmental muscles showing off the latest green construction techniques, offset by smaller specialist companies demonstrating alternative technologies. Blocks of booths are also let out each year to different countries – with, of course, a Chinese contingent that appears to increase in size each year.
A major feature of Ecobuild and now Futurebuild is the wealth of information on offer from seminars, presentations, discussions and other talks in all of the different categories throughout the show – a great opportunity to bring yourself up to date in your own speciality.
We’re taking a stall this year, which means I shall be polishing a seat behind the counter for a couple of days. I would be happy to talk to anyone – client, manufacturer or developer – it will be nice to get some feedback from readers, as well.
