Welcome to the May edition of the Document Manager Magazine Newsletter
The document and content management industry is an ever-changing sector, and this is illustrated by two items in this, our first e-newsletter. Firstly, the breaking news that Kodak's Document Imaging division may be a target for Brother Industries (assuming no 'better offer' comes through before June) - see our News section on the left. Elsewhere, we feature an interview with the CEO of IRIS, Pierre de Muelenaere - the Belgian recognition specialists are themselves likely to come under the Canon umbrella before too much longer.
Do such large acquisitions mean that the specialist knowledge of the industry will be subsumed by giant office equipment manufacturers? We think not - on the contrary, it seems to reflect the importance of a more solution-oriented approach to the market; an approach that is reflected very nicely in the history of firms such as Kodak and IRIS, who have both been innovators in their fields from the start. Assuming both acquisitions go through as planned, we'd expect both firms to continue to trade as separate entities, exploiting the good names they have in the market and continuing to grow their customer bases - IRIS by virtue of its massively extended potential customer base, and Kodak with its increasing emphasis on software platforms as well as scanning innovation.
We live in interesting times, for sure. To keep on top of all the latest developments in this fast-moving sector, make sure you receive your own copy of the DM e-newsletter regularly.
