Comment

Multi-channel capture is a phrase that has been bandied around for a number of years now, ever since business leaders realised that there is as much useful information held on non-standard documents and files as on conventional 'structured' (i.e. easily scannable/convertable) documents. Back in 2012 Forrester summed up the market by saying that "Capture has extended beyond the single dimension of paper scanning in one or two primary locations to become the multi-channel distributed on-ramp for acquiring information. In the next five years, capture will incorporate advanced analytics, mobile solutions, BPM and case management, and stronger integration with enterprise production platforms."

We take an updated look at the growth in multi-channel capture in a feature in this e-newsletter from ABBYY's Markus Pichler, who argues that it is not just the plethora of information sources that is driving the market, but also the need within the business to maintain compliance: "Customers increasingly rely on smartphones and tablets to submit sensitive information. Organisations have the responsibility to ensure the data is securely encrypted for internal processing and protected from unauthorised access from third parties. Multi-channel capture solutions enable this balancing act between long-term data security and privacy in customer communications." This is a sector of our industry that cannot fail to grow significantly in the next few years; what effect might it have on the established players and products? Are they prepared? I'd love to hear your thoughts - drop me an email at the address below.
